yibai (Dávid Gerlei) is a Budapest-based artist who composes experimental ambient and post-industrial with elements of contemporary classical music. He is a second-year Electronic Music and Media Arts student at the University of Pécs.
His debut EP “Rianás” was released on the Hungarian experimental flagship label EXILES in February, 2023. The material – featuring elements of icy ambient and frosty IDM – was well-received and got yibai to perform at multiple Hungarian venues such as Budapest Music Center and Inota Festival. While promoting the EP, he was also invited to play at Nová Cvernovka in Bratislava and Kabinet Múz in Brno.
Following his slightly more industrial and drum-oriented 7-track material “Force Quit” – released on tape by the newborn Budapest-based label temporary nites –, he returns to EXILES with “Hatch + Foster”, a 20-minute EP exploring the fields of bass-heavy, dynamic ambient with an industrial touch. The latest project is a journey into gritty, uncanny worlds where stuttering and rumbling effects, along with defined, leading melodies dominate the soundscape.
