Viktor Ori is a recognized figure in the Slovak alternative music scene, formerly the vocalist and guitarist for Shallov for a decade. The band released its final album, Coexist, Refrain, in March 2023. After Shallov underwent a significant musical, personal, and conceptual transformation, Viktor decided to embark on a solo journey, continuing as the primary creative force behind the new music.
His debut solo album, LEPŠIE NEBOLO, NIKDY DOBRE NEBUDE (It Was Never Better, It Will Never Be Good), is a diverse and complex work that explores the bleakness of the modern world. It features Slovak lyrics with sharp, provocative, and sometimes cynical expressions, presenting harrowing themes that are both subjective and generational, but always sincere. Amidst the darkness, this lyrical approach offers a disillusioned view of the world and a sense of reconciliation that inspires action.
The album was recorded with his brother Dušan Ori and Antonín Kropáček, and co-produced with Jakub Hríbik and Jakub Spiszak. It features collaborations with artists such as Adam Dragun (Berlin Manson), Adela Mede, Dominik Suchý, and Kristie Kardio. The album’s final track is a cover of the song “Biely deň” by Katarína Máliková, which, along with her album Postalgia, had a significant influence on Viktor’s creative process. Definitely recommend you to experience this project live at SHARPE 2025!
