What happens when the frontman of Slovakia’s top reggae band dives into the world of synth and indie pop? He calls his friends to come along and embark on a new musical project. Erik Šulc, best known as the voice of Medial Banana, embraces his love for ‘80s-inspired sounds in his solo project, blending electronic textures with dreamy melodies. His debut album, Radiohood (2024), offers a fresh sonic landscape, shaped in collaboration with synth maestro Martin Krajčír (Isobutane) and bassist Miloš Bulík.
Šulc and Krajčír have worked together before, notably on Mesto, a standout track from Mementos. Now, their live sets, enriched with improvisation, reimagine original compositions alongside unexpected covers. Erik’s transformation from reggae icon to synth-pop innovator was recognized at the 2023 Radioheads Awards, where he won Discovery of the Year. His music proves that genre boundaries are meant to be crossed, creating a space where nostalgia meets modernity in a captivating new form.
