Zaffer 9 is a gloomy yet tender Czechoslovak music project featuring Czech artist Helena Hájková and Slovak artist Viktor Jenčuš. Combining witch house elements with genres like hyperpop, glitchcore, and techno, their work results in a unique blend of playfulness and darkness. Zaffer 9 brings tenderness into aggressive chaos, with live performances consisting of aggressive beats, witchy synths, and vocal accompaniment that will either embrace or consume you. The organic development of this juxtaposition is evident in their debut project.
In March 2023, they released the debut EP “MILK” on the well-known Slovak experimental music label Weltschmerzen. MILK is born between orgasmic sighs and playful glitches, evolving into discordant melodies and high tempo. The kind voice, accompanied by raw synth sounds, transforms into a darker, distorted form. The body cools down, speech slows, and everything stops with an ambient lullaby featuring nearly narrative lyrics.
Since then, Zaffer 9 has performed numerous shows across Slovakia and the Czech Republic, each expressing artistic freedom through experimentation. Every duo performance is unique, with no hesitation in testing new tracks, sounds, and reimagining existing ones. Currently, they are enriching the low end, brightening and sharpening synths, and introducing live drums and metal riffs into the mix. This evolution can be experienced only during live performances for now. However, the artists assure that new tracks will be part of their upcoming project in the near future.
