DJ PUMPA is a living legend and curator of chaos. He was born during a sandstorm in an abandoned railway carriage that someone had converted into an illegal recording studio. He heard his first beats as a child. They were the scratches of wild animals eating at the antennas of the local pirate radio station. From then on, he knew his life wasn’t going to be normal.
At the age of 13, DJ PUMPA hitchhiked halfway across the world to Romania, where he was adopted by a former member of an illegal soundsystem in Bucharest. Bass was pumping through his veins, but Europe wasn’t enough. He saved up by playing in obscure clubs and, using a fake passport, bought a one-way ticket to South America. There, with a stolen USB stick with 3000 tracks in his pouch, he found his spiritual home – in favelas, on rooftops, in the jungle, under bridges. He learned to mix baile funk with electro in a way that shatters the boundaries of genre and reality. His sets are an explosion of contemporary electronic music – the straight beat keeps you going, the bass massages your chest, and the unexpected drops shake your chakras.
Bass is pumpin’. Reality is melting. This is DJ PUMPA.
