Emerging from Zagreb’s DIY punk and post-punk underground, Neon Lies is the solo project of Goran Lautar, also known for his work with Modern Delusion. Since 2016, Lautar has been navigating shadowy synth landscapes where darkwave melancholy meets minimal wave austerity.
Neon Lies explores the space between reworked atmospheres and stripped-down electronics — music that feels both intimate and distant, romantic yet stark. His latest release, Demons (2024), issued via Wave Tension Records, Cosmic Brood Records and Periphylla/Diffuse Reality, deepens this descent into brooding textures and cold, hypnotic rhythms.
On stage, Neon Lies transforms minimal means into maximum intensity. Performing entirely through a 4-track analog tape machine, Lautar intertwines live vocals and synths into a raw, unfiltered sound. The result is a performance suspended between claustrophobia and euphoria — mechanical yet emotional, precise yet vulnerable.
Balancing DIY ethics with cinematic darkness, Neon Lies channels the spirit of classic minimal synth while pushing it into deeply personal territory.
