Taupe (UK) - SHARPE skip to Main Content

+++

The non-jazz band, Taupe, from the United Kingdom consists of three long-term friends – Jamie Stockbridge (alto saxophone), Mike Parr-Burman (guitar) and Alex Palmer (drums). A decade of friendship has conjured a spooky mutual telekinesis. This aspect of understanding anchors the band’s work, with their musical improvisations teetering on the edge of total collapse and deliberately veering away from metronomic precision towards bizarre yet still impressive compositions. They play a genre fusion of avant-punk-jazz and combine jazz sensibilities with anarchic punk aesthetics and electronic experiments. Their album Fill Up Your Lungs and Bellow (2017) was described by All About Jazz as “a sonic chain of chemical reactions” and the Get The Keys EP (2019) is an adrenaline filled story of how they almost had their car with all instruments stolen, while Mike and Adam were still inside. The enthusiasm of the band for discovering anarchic, joyful and specific sounds has won them support from BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio 3.

Playing on: Friday | 22:00 – 22:40 at Club Cverna
