+++

Æ MAK is a songwriter, producer, and performer who creates art pop and excels at live performances. Her energy can be likened to artists like Sia or Grimes, with the stage presence reminiscent of a young David Byrne. Æ MAK has had the privilege of supporting acts like Tune Yards, Django Django, and Warpaint, performing across her native Ireland, as well as in The Netherlands, Germany, the UK, and Iceland. Her career took off in 2017 with the release of the captivating single “I Walk.”

Her most recent projects include the self-produced “Class Exercises,” a backyard dreamer’s take on house party pop, and the kitsch pop EP titled “How to: Make a Kitsch Pop Song to Show the World.” In spring 2023, she released a mixtape titled ‘Berlin,’ a dose of electrifying art-pop, spearheaded by the single ‘Shimmer Boy.’ Her debut LP is currently in the works and is expected to be released in late 2023 or early 2024.

For Æ MAK, music is of paramount importance, serving as a language that has rescued her when verbal communication has failed. “I don’t have a favorite thing to write about,” she explains. “I’ve always been in love with melody and harmony, those little earworms and hooks. Most of the time, it’s the vocal melody that I start with. The visual art and the music go hand in hand, influencing and shaping each other. When I’m writing a song, the movement, performance, video, and artwork are conceptualized simultaneously. That’s why I see each song, each single release as a complete artistic project in itself.” – Æ MAK for the District magazine.
